Learn Faster
Daniel Perlin and Jamie Allen, 2005-2006
Learn faster is an attempt to invert surveillance. The cameras monitor the spectator/participant’s movements, and, depending on your location, command the participant to “learn faster” on one side, or “try harder” on the other. The audio’s granular speed is determined by the proximity to the camera. As the spectator approach one camera and speaker unit, the other begins speaking, making it impossible to fully realize either unit’s commands. The video reflects each camera’s perception of the spectator/participant’s presence as well, with the size of the image determined by the proximity to each camera.
