Protect Yourself From Yourself

Title: Protect yourself from yourself
Materials: Filing cabinet, tv, live and recorded video, surveillance camera, computer, speakers, USA patriot act.
Run time: infinite
Year: 2006

A video monitor sits on top of filing cabinet filled with sections 215 and 217 of the USA patriot act I. The video cuts between surveillance footage of what appears to be abuse, and the viewer watching the cabinet and video in the gallery. The audio is comprised of a computer generated voice reading sections 215 and 217 of the Patriot Act. This audio in turn distorts the video, in real time, blurring the boundaries between sites.

The video below is documentation of the installation at Chelsea Art Museum, as part of the Whitney Independent Study Program, 2006.
